THE RELGION OF THE VIKINGS

NORSE MYTHOLOGY

BASICS

The Nordic faith is believed to have originated in the 9th and 10th centuries around Northern Europe; specifically Iceland and Greenland. The Nordic creation myths are preserved versions of the Germanic Paganism. More commonly known as Scandinavian religions, the Nordic faith still plays a part in modern day society and spiritual history. The name ‘Norse’, referred to the faith of the people and languages of the ancient Scandinavians, such as:

  • Norwegians

  • Swedish

  • Danish

  • Icelandic

  • Predominantly Vikings

As well as being associated with the deities that accompany the faith itself.

Essentially, it was the traditions of the people, located in the Scandinavian countries that originated this religion, which later in history, established the foundations for many other religions, including Christianity.
